How we write and check our articles
What stands behind the blog, in plain words.
Who writes
Articles are written by the SOMAS Management editorial team, in English and in French. The two versions are written separately for each language, not translated word for word, because examples and references differ. A person at SOMAS Management is responsible for everything published here.
Where the information comes from
Health and safety articles rely on public sources: the WHO, national health services and agencies, public health programmes, and organisations that work on online safety. Each article lists its sources at the end, so that you can read them yourself. We only cite pages we have opened, and we say when a page is available in English only. A summary written by a tool is never enough for a health fact: we read the page itself.
Health articles
We are an agency, not a clinic. Health articles are general information, and they follow strict rules.
- Every fact comes from a public page that we have opened and read, and each article shows the date on which its sources were last checked.
- Every figure, such as a delay or an age, is written down with its source and checked against it before publication.
- We name the organisation behind each recommendation, and we remind you that advice differs from one country to another.
- We do not name medicines or brands, we give no doses, we do not diagnose, we do not tell anyone what to take, and we promise no result.
- We do not answer personal medical questions. A doctor, a pharmacist or a sexual health service can.
- Each article says when to see a professional and where to go.
- A health professional reviews each article before search engines are allowed to index it. Until then the page says that a review is planned. Once it is done, the page names the reviewer.
- Health pages never contain a pitch for our agency.
We read the sources again every six months, and whenever an organisation changes its recommendation.
Legal articles
Legal articles are general information too. They rely on public pages from recognised bodies, they carry a date, they say that rules differ from one country to another, and they do not replace the advice of a lawyer.
What we do not do
- We do not promise income, and we do not publish earnings figures.
- We do not rank, name or criticise other agencies. We describe criteria, and you judge.
- We do not publish explicit content, and we do not write tutorials for physical practices that carry risk.
- We do not publish sponsored articles or accept payment for links.
Corrections
If you find a mistake, or something that is out of date, write to us at the address on the contact page. We check it promptly, and if the doubt is serious we take the passage down while we do. We then correct the article, show the date of the update on the page, and thank you if you want to be named.
